Our participation as both speakers and jury members in the ‘City Followers Talks: Jury I’ has been included in the book ‘Geourbanismos. Atlas de la ciudad emergente’ (Geourbanisms. An atlas of the emerging city), which has been recently published by Universidad Camilo José Cela. In particular you can read a transcription of the lecture (pp. 64-71) that we had the opportunity to give in their Madrid city centre campus on December 16, 2016, invited by professors Arturo Blanco, Marta Toral and director Miguel Ángel Díaz Camacho.
Here you can read a short passage from the article:
“What is collaborative urbanism? First we need to differentiate it from participative urbanism, since the idea of collaborative urbanism is often confused with public participation, i.e., the empowerment of citizens to take decisions with regards to the city. We can find associations as well as architecture offices that coordinate citizens while working in a definite space, e.g., developing street furniture for a specific square or street. Even though these micro-actions are increasingly becoming more relevant, this sort of participation is just a part of the concept of collaborative urbanism, which decides over large areas, entire districts in which every agent involved in the urban design process has a voice.”
